Billing Trap Avoidance
The pricing gimmicks Texas providers don't want you to understand.
Average billing smooths out your monthly payments based on a rolling history of your energy usage, but it does not save you money. The primary trap is the Deferred Balance (or "true-up" balance). If your actual electricity use is higher than the rolling average, the difference builds up in a hidden account balance. If you try to switch providers at the end of your contract, you must pay that entire deferred lump sum immediately, which leaves many homeowners feeling stuck in a bad contract.
